Valentine’s day is a day devoted to celebrating love! Not just
love in a romantic sense, but all love. Love between friends, love between family, and most important celebrating God’s love.

Valentine’s day is a perfect time to show God’s love to others.
Here are some ideas for a special Valentine’s day tea.

Atmosphere

If you have any scented candles, now is the perfect time to light them. Set them either in the middle of the table, or out of reach on shelves. Just make sure they are out of the way of any thing that could catch on fire, and also out of the reach of little children. Put some soft beautiful music on, preferably instrumental rather than vocal.

Have each person bring their favorite poem or Scripture to read out loud. Be sure to have a couple favorites of your own.

If you can, put a bouquet of flowers on the table. Rose petals scattered on the tablecloth among the place settings also adds a beautiful touch.

Gifts

It is always nice, when hosting a tea, to have little gifts for your guest. There are lots of simple, inexpensive gifts that are both thoughtful and elegant.

Fans: You can make fans from wallpaper or wrapping paper. Fold a square of paper back and forth in accordion fashion, and tie the end with lace or ribbon.  Single flowers: Roses are most common around Valentine's day, so often you will find them on sale. You can put a single rose on each person’s plate before the tea. Be sure to clip the ends. Wrap wet paper napkins around the bottom of the stem to keep it moist, then you can add wax paper or floral paper around that.

Handmade Valentines: Get out the construction paper and glitter! Make place setting/valentines for each guest. Add a Scripture to each one.

Little Soaps: These are very inexpensive, and everyone enjoys them. Find some netting and cut it in a circle, add a couple soaps, and tie it shut with ribbon. You can also use this technique for making sachets; just add your favorite potpourri instead of soaps!

The Menu

Delicious, Easy, Chocolate Cake

1 small package chocolate pudding, cooked, not instant
1 box chocolate cake mix
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Whipped cream

Cook pudding as directed. While still hot mix together with cake mix in bowl. Mixture should be very thick. Pour into greased 1 3x9 1/2 x 2 inch pan. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts. Bake 30 to 35 minutes at 3500. Cool for 5 minutes. Cut into 2 inch squares.

Blessing Cookies (Chinese fortune cookies)

Cooking Spray.
5 Tbls unsalted butter
4 large egg whites
1 cup superfine sugar
Pinch of salt
3 Tbls heavy cream
1 Tsp almond extract

Heat oven to 4000. Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray. Melt butter. Combine egg whites and sugar with mixer for 30 seconds. Add flour and salt. Beat. Add butter, heavy cream and almond extract, beat for 30 seconds.

Pour batter onto pan by tablespoons, flatten with spoon into 5” circles. Bake for approximately 8 minutes. Take cookies off pan immediately, (they cool very quickly) and (this is the tricky part) fold cookie in half, pinching the tops together to form loose semi circle. Hold cookie with index finger inserted at each open end, slide your fingers along the bottom of the line, and press center. When cookies cool slide in slips of paper with Bible verse references on them.

Verses about God’s love:
1 John 4:16, Ephesians 2:4-7, John 16:27,
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17, Jeremiah 31:3,
1 John 4:19, John 17:23, Hosea 14:4, John
17:26, Zephaniah 3:17, John 3:16.

Cucumber Sandwiches (My favorite!)

1 cucumber
White bread
Salt
Unsalted butter
Cream cheese.
Dill (optional)

Peel cucumbers and slice them very thin. Sprinkle the slices with salt, and then drain them on paper towels. Spread white bread with the unsalted butter and a thin layer of cream cheese, a very small dash of dill can also be added. Cucumbers should be stacked no more than 1/4” high. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Enjoy!

Cream Cheese Mints

2 1/4 cup confectioners sugar
3 ounces softened cream cheese
Peppermint flavoring to taste (about 1/4 teaspoon)
Food coloring
Granulated sugar
Candy molds (optional)

Mix cream cheese and confectioners sugar. If you are going to have more than one color, divide mixture into separate bowls. Add flavoring and color sparingly; you only want pastel colors and soft minty flavors. Stir all together, mixture should be the consistency of pie dough. Roll into balls and then press balls into patties with a drinking glass dipped in granulated sugar. Or press into candy molds and remove at once. (You might need to shake granulated sugar into the molds to keep the candy from sticking.)

Tea

There are many different kinds of tea to choose from, most can be bought at a normal grocery store. My personal favorites are Rose, After Dinner Mint, and Cinnamon apple.

These are just a few ideas. I am sure that you will come up with many more of your own! Have fun! Happy Valentine’s day!
