Little Blessings

It was really neat how God worked out all the details of the play out to His glory. The kids were very excited about performing it for their parents. It was such a blessing to see all the kids older and younger alike work together on this project.  They got excited about learning more about God's most wonderful miracle, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This play is easy to direct, and perfom, and can be done with either a small or a large cast. It does not require large amounts of memorizing 50 even the younger kids can participate, and it is only about 15 minutes long.

The Fear of Man

An Easter Story about Standing up for Christ

Act I

Narrator: "Long ago in the poor city of Bethlehem, Judea, God sent His son to be born in the flesh. He was born in Humility, and lived His life without sin. He was God in the flesh. God had one purpose for sending His son to earth. His son was to suffer and die for sinful mankind, so that we might be able to live eternally with God.

Picture of a performance of The Fear of ManOn the night before He died, He told Peter, one of His disciples, that where He was going Peter could not follow.  Peter said that he would follow Him even unto death. Jesus told Peter that he would be tested and would deny Him three times before the cock crowed."

Peter is standing center stage while a crowd of people are off to the side yelling.

Crowd: "Cricify him, Crucify him!"

A voice comes from off stage as if Peter is remembering.

Narrator: "Even if all men deny you I will never deny you, I will follow you even unto death." (Pause) "Verily I say unto you, that this night before the rooster crows thou shalt deny me three times." "Nay Lord I will never deny thee."

First Girl: "Are you one of that mans' disciples? I recognize your garments and you are a Galilean. You are one of that mans’ disciples, aren't you!

Peter: "1 don't know what you are talking about.  I never met the man.

First boy: "1 saw you yesterday with His disciples. You are one them, aren't you!"

First boy and first girl continue to give Peter questioning looks. Then they both approach him at the same time.

First boy: "Surely you are one of than!"
First girl: "Yea for thy speech betrayeth thee!"

Peter: "I told thee! I never knew the man! Leave me alone!"

ROOSTER CROWS! Peter leaves weeping bitterly. Pause.

Narrator: "Peter was afraid to stand up for Jesus, and as a result, he bore the shame of rejecting his Savior. We do not need to be afraid of what man can do to us.”

All of the children come up on the stage and quote I Timothy 1:7 "For God has not given us a spirit of fear: but of power and of love, and of a sound mind."

Act II

Narrator: "That night that Jesus was crucified, He took the punishment for our sins, so that to all who would receive Him, He might grant the privilege of eternal life with Him in paradise. Bur He did not stay in the grave.

Soldier One and Soldier Two are standing guard at the tomb, when thunder and lightning starts shaking the entire room (cookie sheets and lights flickered.) The soldiers fall down dead. The lights come back on and the stone is rolled away. An angel is standing beside the tomb. Mary and Mary Magdeline see the angel and step back in fear.

Angel: "Fear not, for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.  He is not here: for He has risen!  Come see the place where the Lord lay.  Go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead.”

Mary Magdeline and the other Mary rejoice exceedingly! All of the cast comes back on stage, and sings in closing the first verse of Christ Arose.
